The new HP Pavilion dm1 also called the Pavilion dm1z is an inch notebook that uses the latest AMD Fusion technology to combine a fast dual-core processor and powerful graphics inside a budget-priced netbook alternative. The new design brings back separate left and right mouse buttons, and combines them with a touch pad stamped right into the wrist rest with a subtle textured pattern.

The dm1z has gone from a glossy, bluetootj lid to a matte one, in an attractive dark gray. But the Beats Audio software provides EQ and other sound settings that can control volume levels for different output types and add noise cancellation to audio recordings.

If we had the same level of performance in a inch laptop, it might feel sluggish, but in an inch body, it’s much better than the Intel Atom Netbooks that were all bluetoooth rage a year or so ago. The processor bump didn’t amount to much, as the new Pavilion dm1z performed about the same as the AMD E laptops we’ve tested, but the design tweaks, dm1x subtle, make for a slicker, more upscale-looking system. Don’t show this again. The inch screen bluetooht a native resolution of 1,x pixels, exactly what we’d expect for a laptop this size.

I just wish this was a little more obvious for owners who want to upgrade the notebook themselves. Inside, the keyboard and keyboard tray are now all matte black, instead of black keys against a light-gray plastic interior.
